Day 1 — Palaces in the clouds
- 08:11 Train from Lisbon Rossio (€3). ≈€2.45 each way on a Navegante card, 40 min. Take the 08:11 — Sintra rewards the early and punishes the late.
- 09:00 Bus 434 tourist loop (€8). ≈€8 hop-on loop from the station to the hilltop palaces. Tuk-tuks quote €10–15 and beat the queue uphill.
- 09:30 Pena Palace at opening (€20). €20 park + palace, TIMED entry — book online and take the first slot. Head straight to the palace interior, then the terraces; the crowds arrive mid-morning like weather.
- 11:45 Castelo dos Mouros (€12). €12. A thousand-year-old Moorish wall snaking along the ridgeline — the rampart walk looks back at Pena floating in the trees.
- 13:30 Travesseiros at Piriquita, then a tasca lunch (€17). The warm almond pillow-pastries are ≈€2 and the reason queues form; a tasca lunch nearby ≈€15.
