Day 1 — Ribeira & the first port
- 13:00 Metro from Porto airport (OPO) (€4). ≈€4 on an Andante card, 30 min to Trindade.
- 14:30 Guesthouse near São Bento, 3 nights (€360). ≈€120/night. São Bento station's azulejo hall is your daily commute — worse fates exist.
- 16:00 Ribeira & the Dom Luís I bridge walk. Free. Cross the TOP deck to Gaia and look back — Porto stacks itself up the hillside for exactly this view.
- 18:00 Port lodge tasting in Gaia (€20). ≈€20 at Taylor's or Graham's, book the last tour. You'll never again accept that port is one flavour.
- 20:30 Dinner back on the Porto side (€30).
Day 2 — Baroque, books & the Atlantic
- 09:00 Livraria Lello at opening (€8). €8 voucher (redeemable against a book), TIMED — book the first slot online or queue behind every Potter fan in Iberia. The staircase earns the fuss.
- 10:30 Clérigos Tower (€8). €8, 225 steps, the whole terracotta city below.
- 12:30 Francesinha, once (€14). ≈€14. Porto's meat-and-cheese sandwich drowned in beer sauce — a rite, not a habit. Split one.
- 15:00 Vintage tram 1 to Foz (€4). ≈€3.50. Riverside rails to where the Douro meets the Atlantic.
- 16:00 Foz promenade & Pergola da Foz. Free. Atlantic sunset with the lighthouse taking waves on the chin.
Day 3 — Up the Douro
- 09:15 Douro line to Pinhão (€15). ≈€15 each way; the last hour runs ON the riverbank through terraced vineyards. Left side going up.
- 11:30 Quinta tasting in Pinhão (€25). ≈€25 at a riverside quinta (Bomfim's terrace is the classic). This is where last night's port grew up.
- 13:30 Long lunch above the river (€30).
- 15:30 Rabelo boat hour or azulejo station (€10). Pinhão's station is wrapped in vineyard azulejos (free); a one-hour rabelo cruise ≈€15.
- 17:30 Train back down the valley (€15). River side again — golden hour on the terraces is the day's encore.
Day 4 — Mercado, miradouros, home
- 09:30 Mercado do Bolhão (€10). Renovated 1914 market hall — cheese, tinned fish and bolinhos for the flight home.
- 11:00 Sé cathedral terrace & Vitória viewpoint. Free. Last look down the rooftops to the river.
- 13:00 Pastel de nata & bica standing up (€3). ≈€3, at the counter like a local.
- 15:00 Metro to the airport (€4). 40 minutes; allow the usual 3-hour buffer.
