Day 1 — Delhi, deep end
- 13:00 Prepaid taxi or Uber from IGI (600 INR). ≈₹500–600 to central Delhi. Use the prepaid booth or the app; the metro Airport Express (₹60) is the savvy alternative.
- 15:00 Central Delhi hotel, 2 nights (9,000 INR). ≈₹4,500/night around Connaught Place — colonial arcades, metro hub, and a soft landing for the sensory throttle ahead.
- 17:00 India Gate & Rajpath at dusk. Free. Delhi promenades here in the evening — ice cream carts, cricket games, the WWI arch lit gold.
- 19:30 First thali (500 INR). ≈₹400–600. A dozen small dishes, unlimited refills, the whole subcontinent on one steel plate. Rule one all trip: bottled or filtered water only, no street ice.
Day 2 — Old Delhi & New
- 08:30 Jama Masjid & a cycle-rickshaw through Chandni Chowk (300 INR). Mosque free (camera fee ₹300); rickshaw loop ≈₹200–300 agreed up front. The old city at full volume — go morning, before the density doubles.
- 11:00 Paranthe Wali Gali breakfast-lunch (200 INR). ≈₹150–200. The fried-bread lane that has fed Delhi since the 1870s; the pickle plate is not optional.
- 13:00 Humayun's Tomb (600 INR). ₹600 foreign entry. The Taj's architectural grandfather in red sandstone, blissfully quieter — restored gardens worth an unhurried hour.
- 15:30 Qutub Minar (600 INR). ₹600. A 73 m victory tower from 1193 and a 1,600-year-old iron pillar that refuses to rust — metallurgy still arguing with itself.
- 19:00 Dinner in Hauz Khas or CP (700 INR).
Day 3 — The Taj, at first light
- 06:00 Gatimaan Express to Agra (1,500 INR). ≈₹1,500 executive class, 100 minutes from Hazrat Nizamuddin. India's fastest train, breakfast included — book ahead on IRCTC or via your hotel.
- 08:30 Taj Mahal (1,300 INR). ₹1,300 foreign ticket (incl. mausoleum). Enter via the East Gate, shoes covered, tripods banned. It survives every photograph you've seen — the marble changes colour by the hour and the symmetry breaks only at Shah Jahan's own off-centre tomb. CLOSED FRIDAYS — build the week around this.
- 12:00 Lunch near Taj Ganj (400 INR).
- 14:00 Agra Fort (650 INR). ₹650. The red-sandstone seat of the empire — and the prison where Shah Jahan spent his last years gazing at what he'd built downriver.
- 17:00 Road transfer Agra → Jaipur (3,500 INR). ≈₹3,500 for the 4-hour private car via the Yamuna Expressway leg — with a Fatehpur Sikri stop (₹610) if daylight allows; the ghost capital is worth the detour.
- 21:30 Jaipur haveli hotel, 3 nights (12,000 INR). ≈₹4,000/night in a converted mansion — courtyards, block-print everything, rooftop dal baati dinners.
Day 4 — The Pink City
- 09:00 Hawa Mahal at street level, then City Palace (1,000 INR). Hawa Mahal's façade photographs best from the café opposite (a coffee is your ticket); City Palace ₹700–1,000 depending on courtyards.
- 11:30 Jantar Mantar (200 INR). ₹200. An 18th-century observatory of giant stone instruments — the 27 m sundial is accurate to two seconds and looks like sculpture.
- 13:00 LMB thali in Johari Bazaar (500 INR). The 1954 institution — the ghewar dessert is Jaipur's own.
- 15:30 Bazaars: block print, blue pottery, bangles (500 INR). Bapu and Johari bazaars; fixed-price government emporia calibrate your haggling baseline first.
- 19:00 Rooftop dinner under the fort lights (600 INR). Nahargarh's walls glow above the city after dark.
Day 5 — Amber Fort & the water palace
- 08:30 Amber Fort (600 INR). ₹600 (elephant rides skipped on welfare grounds — the walk up is 10 minutes, the jeep ₹300). The Sheesh Mahal's mirror mosaic lights entirely from one candle, and guides love proving it.
- 11:30 Panna Meena ka Kund stepwell. Free. The Escher-geometry stepwell around the corner from Amber that the crowds miss.
- 13:00 Lunch back in town (400 INR).
- 15:00 Jal Mahal photo stop & Albert Hall (300 INR). The lake palace floats; the museum (₹300) is fine — its Egyptian mummy remains Jaipur's oddest resident.
- 18:30 Chai and kachori crawl (150 INR). ₹20 chai done right, ₹30 pyaaz kachori — Jaipur's real street religion.
Day 6 — Return loop
- 09:00 Shatabdi back to Delhi (1,200 INR). ≈₹1,200 chair car, 4h35 — or fly JAI→DEL in 50 minutes if connections demand.
- 15:00 Onward to IGI (600 INR). Allow FOUR hours before an international departure from Delhi — the airport queues are epic even by local standards.
