Day 1 — Kuidaore — eat till you drop

  • 14:00 Rapi:t or Midosuji line into town (¥1,490). ¥1,490 from Kansai (KIX) on the Rapi:t to Namba. Get an ICOCA card if you don't have one.
  • 15:30 Namba hotel, 2 nights (¥26,000). ≈¥13,000/night. Namba puts Dotonbori, Kuromon and the train lines at your door.
  • 17:30 Dotonbori at neon hour. Free. The Glico runner, the mechanical crab, the river of light — Osaka's id, fully visible.
  • 18:30 Takoyaki, then kushikatsu in Shinsekai (¥2,000). Takoyaki ≈¥600 for six; kushikatsu skewers ≈¥150–300 each. THE RULE in Shinsekai: no double-dipping in the communal sauce — one dip, then use the free cabbage to spoon more.

Day 2 — Castle, market, sky

  • 09:00 Osaka Castle & park (¥600). ¥600 for the keep (a modern museum inside); the moats and stone walls are the real 16th-century article and free.
  • 11:30 Kuromon Ichiba grazing lunch (¥2,500). ≈¥2,500. Grilled scallops, wagyu skewers, uni spoons — pay per stall, eat standing, repeat.
  • 14:00 Shinsaibashi-suji & Amerikamura. Free. A kilometre of covered arcade shopping, then Osaka's Harajuku-with-attitude.
  • 17:30 Umeda Sky Building at sunset (¥2,000). ¥2,000 for the open-air Floating Garden ring, 173 m up — book the slot that starts 40 minutes before sundown.
  • 20:00 Okonomiyaki dinner (¥1,500). ≈¥1,500. Osaka-style, cooked on the teppan in front of you — do NOT press it flat with the spatula; the chef is watching.

Day 3 — Nara in a half day

  • 08:30 Kintetsu express to Nara (¥680). ¥680, 35 min. The deer meet you at the park entrance.
  • 09:30 Nara Park & the bowing deer (¥200). Deer crackers ¥200 — bow and most deer bow back before eating your map. Keep paper out of reach; they are shameless.
  • 10:30 Tōdai-ji Great Buddha (¥800). ¥800. A 15-metre bronze Buddha in one of the largest wooden buildings on earth; kids squeeze through the pillar hole equal to the Buddha's nostril.
  • 13:00 Kakinoha sushi lunch in Naramachi (¥1,500). Persimmon-leaf-wrapped sushi, the local specialty since before refrigeration.
  • 15:30 Back to Osaka, onward or out (¥680). KIX is ≈1h from Namba; Kyoto is 30 min — this trip chains perfectly onto our Kyoto & Osaka or Japan Alps itineraries.
