Day 1 — Arrive & the Waterfront

13:00 Ride from Cape Town International (CPT) (250 ZAR). ≈R250 by Uber/Bolt — use the apps rather than kerbside taxis. 25 min to the City Bowl.
14:30 City Bowl hotel, 4 nights (6,400 ZAR). ≈R1,600/night in Gardens/Kloof Street — walkable cafés, mountain at your back. Standard city sense applies: valuables out of sight, use ride-hail after dark.
16:30 V&A Waterfront. Free to wander. Working harbour, seals on the jetties, Table Mountain framed behind the ferris wheel.
19:00 Harbour dinner (350 ZAR). ≈R350 gets excellent seafood; the fish is whatever came in that morning.

08:00 Table Mountain cableway (395 ZAR). ≈R395 return, book online. THE RULE: go the FIRST clear morning of your stay, not the last — the mountain makes its own weather and the cableway shuts in high wind. If today is cloudy, swap this day with any other.
11:30 Bo-Kaap. Free. The painted houses of the Cape Malay quarter — it is a living neighbourhood, so photograph streets, not people's doorways.
13:00 Cape Malay lunch (180 ZAR). ≈R180. Bobotie or a curry where the cuisine was invented.
15:00 Company's Garden & the museums (50 ZAR). Gardens free; the Iziko museums R30–60 each.
19:00 Kloof Street dinner (300 ZAR).

08:30 Peninsula day: hire car or day tour (700 ZAR). ≈R700 for a day's car hire (drive on the left) or ≈R1,200 on a small-group tour. The loop below is the finest coastal drive in Africa.
09:30 Chapman's Peak Drive (57 ZAR). R57 toll, 114 curves cut into the cliff between Hout Bay and Noordhoek.
11:00 Boulders Beach penguins (190 ZAR). ≈R190. African penguins at arm's length on the boardwalk — arm's length, not petting distance; they bite like staplers.
12:30 Kalk Bay harbour lunch (250 ZAR). ≈R250. Fish and chips on the harbour wall while seals patrol for scraps.
14:30 Cape Point & the Cape of Good Hope (400 ZAR). ≈R400 entry. Walk up to the old lighthouse rather than taking the funicular; watch for baboons — windows up, food hidden.

09:00 Robben Island (600 ZAR). ≈R600, 3.5h including the ferry. BOOKS OUT DAYS AHEAD and boats cancel in heavy swell — book the morning slot and keep this day swappable. Guides are former political prisoners; it stays with you.
14:00 Zeitz MOCAA (230 ZAR). ≈R230. Africa's biggest contemporary-art museum, carved out of a grain silo — the building alone is worth it.
17:30 Camps Bay sunset (150 ZAR). Drinks ≈R150. The Twelve Apostles turn pink behind you as the sun drops into the Atlantic.

09:00 Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden (220 ZAR). ≈R220. Take the Boomslang canopy walkway; summer Sundays have sunset concerts on the lawns.
11:30 Garden brunch (200 ZAR).
13:30 Ride to the airport (250 ZAR). ≈R250, 30 min against traffic. Allow 3 hours for international departures.
